My hard drive crashed out and I replaced it. The version of Nikon Scan 4 in the App folder would not open up. I had transferred it from my crashed drive by copying the files from the Application folder.

Nikon Coolscan or ?

I have a Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard I have not upgraded to Lion due to compatibility issues. The solution for me was to download Nikon Scan 4.

The installer wouldn't go past this and the program hung up. I force quit the installer [command option esc keys] and noticed that the Nikon Scan icon and application were installed in the Application folder.

When I started Nikon scan, it ran just fine. Funny, my reference slide for the Macbeth color chart was perfect the first time and I didn't tweak anything.

I had previous presets lost in the Mac software Library but it didn't seem to matter. So back to scanning I found Vuescan and have it running. Seems to work fine and will be ok for current needs, but was not as impressed as I was with the demo of SilverFast or with the nikonscan software for that matter. Recently had a similar issue, I know this is an old thread, but I thought I would post my solution anyway since it might be of interest to others.

The solution turned out to simple - I installed Virtual Box which is a free virtual machine loaded an old copy of windows and photoshop with the required plugin and now I am up and scanning with my mac. The same approach should work for any old hardware that is not supported by the latest OS. Recommended Posts. Posted July 13, This page is based on a Photo.

When you start Nikon Scan 4. We don't use our scanners on Windows 8 but user feedback tells us that in order to install the driver created above one needs to start Windows 8 in a special mode first. Getting Windows 8 to boot in that mode involves a series of steps of which we provide screen captures below.

The screen captures come from a virtual Windows 8 machine and since FireWire devices can't be passed through to that virtual system we won't show the actual driver installation. First get the Windows 8 menu to show and click the gear icon at its bottom. On the settings screen click the "Change PC settings" entry.
